The Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’ Association presents the 19th Annual Advanced DUI Defense Seminar

On May 5, 2023, the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’ Association is holding its 19th Annual Advanced DUI Defense Seminar at the Doubletree Hotel in Linthicum, Maryland.

The seminar, organized and run by Leonard R. Stamm in conjunction with the MCDAA will feature presentations by experienced lawyers as well as an expert chemist.  The schedule is shown below.  If your lawyer attends this program, he or she is getting the most up to date training available for how to handle DUI cases.

Kevin Schug, Ph.D.
Kevin A. Schug is Professor and the Shimadzu Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Since joining UTA in 2005, his research has been focused on the theory and application of separation science and mass spectrometry for solving a variety of chemistry problems. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications and over 600 presentations, posters, and invited talks. Dr. Schug has received many research awards.  He was named to The Analytical Scientist’s Top 100 Power List of the most influential analytical chemists in the world in 2019 and 2021.

Doug Murphy 
Doug Murphy is Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and in and DWI Defense by the National College for DUI Defense. Doug previously served as Dean of the National College for DUI Defense and President of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association.  In addition to numerous other awards and recognitions, Doug was awarded the Sharon Levine Unsung Hero Lawyer of the Year Award by the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association for his efforts, along with others, in exposing the flaws in the Houston Police Departments BAT (breath alcohol testing) vans leading to their decommissioning. The Houston Press cited Doug as the “Drinking Driver’s Best Friend.”

Michael Hawkins
Michael Hawkins is Board Certified in DUI Defense Law as recognized by the American Bar Association. He began his career as a prosecutor in Atlanta, Georgia in 1992. Mike is frequently named as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Georgia in Atlanta Magazine. He has taught cross-examination techniques to lawyers in 16 states. He is the 2023 Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” in Georgia for DUI Defense. Mike is a Fellow for the National College for DUI Defense, and served as Dean of the College from 2017-18. Mike has represented professional athletes from the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, and the National Hockey League. He has also represented NASCAR drivers, Grammy Award-winning musicians, Emmy Award-winning media personalities, corporate executives, and even police officers
charged with DUI.

Leight Collins
Leight Collins is an Assistant Attorney General at the Motor Vehicle Administration in Glen Burnie.  In that position, he has litigated many MVA Appeals and Court of Appeals cases.  He has been a featured presenter at MVA and MCDAA seminars in the past.

Laura Kelsey Rhodes
Laura Kelsey Rhodes was a founding partner of Albright & Rhodes, LLC, handling criminal and immigration matters in the Washington, D.C. and Maryland courts, both federal and local. She developed her criminal law expertise during seven years with the Maryland Public Defenders Office. Ms. Rhodes’ immigration practice focuses on deportation litigation and other areas involving the effect of criminal convictions on immigration status and benefits.

Paul Kent 
Paul Kent practices criminal defense and DUI.  He is based in Rockville. He has been racking up victories in DUI cases using novel defenses that he will share with attendees.
